What’s in Your Wellness Toolbox?

Posted by Dan Joyce on

In some forms of psychology, we develop what’s called a Wellness Toolbox. It’s a collection of activities, habits, or things that make us feel good, helping us manage stress, lift our mood, or simply take a break from the chaos of daily life. These are the little rewards we give ourselves — the warm fuzzies — for doing something nice, something that fills our emotional tank.

In my Wellness Toolbox, I’ve stocked up on a variety of activities that help me stay grounded and bring joy to my day. Here’s what I’ve packed:

  • Coffee or a Soda: Sometimes, it’s the simple things. A cup of coffee or soda is like a little indulgence that adds a spark to my routine.
  • The Arts: I love all forms of art — drawing, painting, and playing guitar. Whether it’s writing a song or crafting a piece of poetry, these creative outlets help me express myself.
  • Journaling: Writing is my way of processing the world. I’ll add a few pages to my books, or if inspiration strikes, make a music video to share on social media.
  • Social Connection: My friends and girlfriends mean the world to me. They provide the company and grounding I need, whether it’s a simple chat or their support during tough times.

These activities, and the people in my life, form the foundation of my wellness. They’re the things I turn to when I need to recharge or feel balanced.

So, what’s in your Wellness Toolbox? What activities, hobbies, or rituals help you stay grounded and bring you joy? I’d love to hear about them — drop your thoughts in the comment section below!
