As I continue to create more art, I can’t help but reflect on the originals that have been lost or stolen over the years. These pieces hold stories of their own, and unfortunately, many are no longer with me. It’s one of the reasons I tend to sell prints nowadays.
One of my most memorable losses was my 50 People with Mental Illness series. This entire collection vanished along with my car during a terrible breakup with Jenny Prince. It was a heart-wrenching time, and the art that documented so much of my journey disappeared right along with it.
Another painful memory comes from my Sexy Singers series. The last time I saw that collection, it was in the back of a cop car, en route to the hospital. Sadly, it was never recovered, and those vibrant, expressive pieces are now just a memory.
Then there’s the original watercolor illustrations I created for the Tears of God book. These pieces never seemed to make it to my unit, even though the court ordered my brother to deliver them. They seem to have vanished into thin air.
I still have a storage unit that my family maintains, filled with tons of art that I haven’t had the chance to go through. There’s always hope that I might find something meaningful in that collection.
So, if by some chance you happen to own an original DAN JOYCE painting, I’d definitely hang on to it! Originals are a rarity these days, and every piece has its own unique story.
Stay tuned as I continue to create and share new art, while my prints are still available for those looking to bring a bit of my world into theirs.
