Imagine being told that the solution to your mental illness is to be thrown out onto the streets, left to fend for yourself with nothing but the hope that cold, hunger, and despair will somehow “cure” you. This is not fiction. This is the harsh reality many clients of Telecare face today. Nearly half of their clients are forced into homelessness, with the absurd claim that being homeless will somehow cure addiction and mental illness. The logic is not just flawed—it’s dangerous and cruel.
Let’s break down the absurdity: mental illness and addiction are complex conditions that require stable environments, ongoing care, and community support. Yet, Telecare's policy suggests that the chaos and danger of living on the streets will somehow lead to recovery. The reality? Mentally ill homeless individuals often face a slow, miserable decline, with many dying within five years. The idea that homelessness is a cure is not only absurd; it’s a death sentence.
This approach eerily echoes the policies of history’s darkest regimes. Hitler's attempt to exterminate the mentally ill through gas chambers was a horrifying chapter in human history. While Telecare isn’t sending people to gas chambers, their policy of forcing clients into homelessness feels disturbingly similar in intent. It’s a systemic effort to push vulnerable people to the margins of society, where they are more likely to die than to recover.
Telecare doesn’t stop at just making people homeless. They censor what their clients can say or do in their clinics, to an extreme extent. Speaking out about their treatment, expressing concerns, or even disagreeing with their care plan can result in severe consequences. Clients are treated like prisoners in a system that’s supposed to help them, not silence them.
And if you think you can fight back, think again. Telecare often uses the police to back them up, both at the clinic and at clients’ homes. This authoritarian approach adds another layer of fear and control over people who are already struggling with their mental health. Instead of offering compassion, understanding, and support, Telecare doubles down with force, much like the regimes that history has taught us to fear and despise.
The comparison to Hitler’s treatment of the mentally ill may seem extreme, but when you look at the outcomes—death, silence, and control—the parallels become chillingly clear. Telecare’s policy is not about care. It’s about control, and it’s leading to the slow, miserable deaths of the very people they are supposed to be helping.
It’s time to call out this absurdity for what it is: a modern-day atrocity hidden under the guise of “tough love” and “treatment.” Just as we look back in horror at the atrocities of the past, we must act now to stop the inhumane treatment happening today. The mentally ill deserve better than to be thrown away and forgotten—they deserve dignity, care, and a real chance at life.
