Quitting smoking is never easy, especially when you're surrounded by it. I’ve tried to quit before, often avoiding situations where I’d be tempted. But this time, I’m doing things differently. I won’t hide from the smoke-filled rooms or duck out of situations that challenge me. Instead, I’m relying on a supportive relationship—a partnership that’s not romantic or family-oriented, but something else entirely.
This relationship is with Jacki, someone who’s chosen to be by my side in a charitable, encouraging way. There’s no ancient myth or predefined script for what we have. It’s about seeing if this connection is strong enough to help me grow—to quit smoking, exercise, manage my money, and develop better habits. And truthfully, it’s already making a difference.
Jacki, you make me think, and that helps more than you know. It’s not just about accountability; it’s about balance. The key here is not to take too much from you while offering little in return. That’s where I offer my art and my support, not just as someone quitting smoking but as a friend. Together, we see what we can build from this.
You’re off on vacation now, but I’ll spend the day here, not smoking, not sneaking off to give in. Your words echo with me: “I like helping people, and if I can make a difference in your life, I want to do that.”
Thank you for being a friend. That’s what helps the most right now.
Stay tuned for more from the Smoker’s Journal as I continue this journey. Day by day, step by step, with accountability, friendship, and a little bit of art on the side.
