My Smoker's Journal: A Move to Laguna Beach: New Beginnings and Staying Smoke-Free

Posted by Dan Joyce on

I might be relocated to a shelter in Laguna Beach soon. While this brings some uncertainty, there's a silver lining: it could help me stay away from smoking. Cigarettes will be more expensive there, and that cost is something I’d rather save to fund my business goals. The price difference alone might be the motivation I need to kick the habit for good.

Yesterday and today have already been promising. By avoiding the sections of my current facility near the smoking areas, I’ve had far fewer cravings. It’s a small step, but it shows me that I can do this. Keeping focused on the short term—just making it through today—seems to be the key. In the long run, quitting will not only improve my health but also put me closer to achieving my dreams.

Imagine it: by saving the money I'd otherwise spend on cigarettes, I can fund my plans for two Comic-Con conventions. Selling my books at these events is a huge goal of mine, and I can feel it getting closer. Maybe I could even put together an art show in Laguna Beach. The thought of having my work displayed there keeps me motivated.

For now, it’s about staying focused on today. I’m feeling hopeful about what’s to come. One day at a time, with one eye on the future. Laguna Beach could be the fresh start I need to achieve my dreams.
