This cat is ridiculous. In the best way possible.
For starters, she’s a rescue cat, but still a kitten. Most rescue cats arrive like they’ve already seen things. Full grown. World weary. Maybe carrying a tiny bindle of regrets. Not Whiskey. When we got her, she was just a little thing. She's so young, she could be Jeffrey Epstein’s cat.
Then there are her emotional negotiations. Her pleas for love are fickle, dramatic, and subject to change without notice.
Last night she was laying perfectly still in my bed, looking innocent, angelic even. Then I heard it. Achoo!
I said out loud, to no one in particular, “Was that a sneeze?”
That’s when it happened.
Right in my face. Three of them. Back to back. No warning. No apology.
ACHOO! ACHOO! ACHOO!
I did the only reasonable thing. I left her alone and reconsidered all my life choices.
This morning, I tried again. I went in for the usual petting ritual. Nose rub with mine. Then a little kiss on the lips, which in my mind is very sweet and in her mind is a criminal offense.
Pfft! Pfft! Pfft!
She shook her head like she’d just tasted betrayal. Clearly, affection has rules. They change daily. Sometimes hourly.
Then came the rest of the routine. Morning petting, followed by biting to let me know the meeting was over. No minutes will be distributed. The decision is final.
And through all of this, I didn’t smoke.
Another day not smoking with Whiskey Kitty in charge of quality control, boundaries, and airborne particles. She’s too much. But she’s also exactly enough.
