Last night, while talking with one of my biggest supporters of this blog, the conversation drifted toward the two subjects most people say to avoid: religion and politics. I don’t care much for political talk these days. The country feels so divided that it’s exhausting, and honestly, Trump supporters have a lot of explaining to do before I can even try to understand them.
But religion? That’s another story. I’ve decided to go back to church. It’s been a long time since I’ve walked through those doors, and this feels like the right moment—not just for spiritual reasons, but for creative ones too.
I also made a major decision about my art and my ongoing journey of staying smoke-free. I’m putting The Unlikely Prophet project on pause and returning to an older book series I created years ago called The Tears of God. That series was born during a time when I was deeply involved in church and, interestingly, smoke-free then too. Each book in the series is illustrated with my original watercolor paintings, which I believe may connect more authentically with where I am today—both emotionally and spiritually.
Mom loved the idea, and we’re setting up a small art studio in the house so I can get back to painting. The story behind The Tears of God spans four books and explores a religious calling I once experienced—what it meant to me, what I did with it, and how it eventually led me to walk away from the church. But this time, I’m returning with a new purpose: new friends, new inspiration, and a renewed commitment to staying smoke-free.
God bless you all for following this journey. Each day smoke-free feels like another layer of clarity, another awakening. Here’s to art, faith, and fresh beginnings.
We got this.
