Blacklist Negotiations: Magoski Dodges the Ball

Posted by Dan Joyce on

I’ve always believed that art brings people together, but sometimes, in the world of creative expression, bridges burn. The blacklist saga between myself and Magoski has been a long, winding road, and yet, after all these years, here we are—back at square one.

Magoski’s recent message has left me perplexed. It begins with my emails being sent straight to spam, as if that’s where my entire relationship with the Art Colony has ended up. "You don't seem to be hearing me," he says. The irony is thick, considering the years of dodged accountability.

His recollections are hazy, and while he denies ever labeling me as dangerous or a monster, the damage has already been done. I was banned from the Colony, and for what? Holding onto my own belief that I was wronged, according to him. Sure, I was invited back in—after a year—but the stain of being blacklisted in the eyes of the community never fully washed away.

The heart of the matter? He claims there was never any blacklist, that my lack of shows or business after the Colony shut down had nothing to do with him. It's easy to say, “I NEVER SPOKE ILL OF YOU” in public, but actions speak louder than words. When you're cast out, the whispers linger, whether you intend them to or not.

Magoski goes on to say, "You simply must accept that your own behavior is the cause of your problems." A convenient way to wipe his hands clean of any role in the fallout, shifting all the blame onto me. It’s the kind of narrative that fits nicely into his storyline, but for me? It’s not that simple.

He signs off with a farewell, distancing himself from social media and what he calls my “Don Quixote quest.” It’s almost poetic—him retreating from the digital age while I continue to push forward, seeking justice, or at least some acknowledgment of the past.

I’m left with his final words: “I will let them know you’re a talented artist that deserves attention.” It’s bittersweet, almost like a backhanded compliment. The art world isn’t about just being talented—it’s about connections, opportunities, and the support of those who hold power in their hands.

The truth is, I’ll keep moving forward. I have goals, dreams, and ambitions that stretch far beyond the boundaries of the Colony. Whether they acknowledge my talent or not, I’m not done. Not by a long shot.

This chapter may have closed with Magoski’s dodge, but my story is far from over.

Stay tuned.
