🎬 My Disney Dream Job – Heard Back from My First Applications

Posted by Dan Joyce on

So, I heard back from Disney.

No, I didn’t get the first few jobs I applied for — Senior Image Creator, Internship, Executive Assistant… and honestly, I get it. Those roles require qualifications I just don’t have yet. But here's the twist: instead of a cold rejection, they nudged me in another direction. They actually suggested I apply elsewhere within the Disney family — which feels a lot less like a door slamming and more like someone cracking a window open.

Today, I took the hint and applied for a job as a Storyboard Artist.

If you don’t know what that is, it’s basically the person who draws out the movie before it’s a movie — like a comic book version of each scene, frame by frame. It requires a strong imagination, fast hands, and the ability to visualize entire worlds… which, luckily, happens to be my thing. Drawing from my head? That’s the skill I’ve been sharpening for years. I was trained for this, even when life got in the way.

I’ve also been blogging a lot more — not just to share my journey but to grab Disney’s attention and maybe explain something important: my handicap. I live with bipolar schizoaffective disorder. I know that sounds heavy, and it has been. There’s a big gap in my resume due to my last episode, but rather than hide it, I may tell them soon — before they even ask.

Because here’s the thing… I am a Disney story.

I grew up in a harsh and abusive family. I’ve known homelessness, hospitals, and hopelessness. But I also climbed out from under all of it. I battled the villains of my own mind, fought my way back into the light, and now I’m chasing dreams with a pencil in my hand. That’s not just my story — it’s the kind of story Disney tells. And I’ve written plenty of stories like that myself, based on everything I’ve lived through.

If I can get my foot in the door, if they let me be part of the magic — even just one frame at a time — I’ll be more than happy to show them what I can do.

Until then, it’s all about imagination, fascination, and dreams. ✨
