As many of you know, Iām a 59-year-old bipolar schizoaffective artist whose last serious episode left me homeless. Through years of treatment, rehab, andāletās face itāsheer determination, Iāve managed to pull myself back up by the bootstraps. Today, Iām not just surviving. Iām thriving, one brushstroke at a time.
Iām also a chain-smoker undergoing cancer tests. If the results come back clear this weekāand I believe they willāthen Iām officially launching my full pursuit of a lifelong dream: to work for Disney as an artist.
The road has been long and harsh, but finally, the light at the end of the tunnel isnāt a traināitās a rainbow.
⨠Iāve completed the early drafts of my resume, cover letter, and portfolio. My website (danjoyceart.com) has received glowing praise, though I still plan to fine-tune it for professional polish. Along the way, Iāve learned just how many people are affected by mental health challenges, and how awareness, empathy, and art can open doors.
One of my favorite beliefs?
āYou learn something from everyone you meetālearn the best of them.ā
Below is my Disney Portfolio PDF. It's a vibrant, overlapping blend of surreal characters, emotional paintings, streetwise portraits, and heartfelt tributes. If you have time to look through it, I welcome your honest thoughts and feedback. Every tip or encouragement helps me refine my dreamāand get one step closer to making magic with Disney Imagineering.
